This July 4, 2020 was different. There were no parades. There were no concerts. There were no street fairs, and no large city sponsored firework displays. There were private observances by families on their own property, and they were loud and bold, and far more real than any government planned activity. The air was thick with "bombs bursting in air", so much so that not even two seconds went by without hearing explosions and fireworks everywhere. It was amazing. It sounded like a war zone, but it gave us joy. Joy because with every burst and boom, we Americans were saying, "We are free! And we will celebrate and remember those who fought those battles to give us that freedom."
