Our Adventures at Georgia Cyber Academy

October
Kaitlyn is learning about directions, day and night, and the weather. Here are a few pictures of what we did in October.

 a weather vane that worked!

We made a compass on the ground, and learned directions!
The earth rotates around the sun and creates day and night, and the seasons!! ( Kaitlyn held a blow up globe and walked around a lamp we placed in the middle of the room)
How fast is the wind blowing?
We had fun painting the classroom windows!

September Here's some video of one of Alan's Math classes. This is a live web class. The teacher is asking the class questions and calling on students to answer them. She also gives them an assignment at the end of class which they are to complete and turn in. I hardly have to do anything except make sure he's getting to his classes on time, but he does that well on his own.

Since I can't possibly keep you posted on every thing they do every day, I'll just be putting up a few of the highlights.
Everyday we log into k12.com and take a look at the daily schedule.  Alan logs into his different web classes for different subjects throughout the day and interacts with the teachers and students. It's hard to explain, but he even gets to "raise his hand" and answer questions just like in a real classroom, only it's through the computer.   Along with his web classes he also has to complete a lesson and assignment each day in each subject. He also is required to daily log into "study island" which is a program that helps him prepare for the CRCT which he will take next spring at a library or some other designated place.
Kaitlyn also has daily subjects that she must complete assignments in every day, but 90% of them are hands on lessons that I do with her away from the computer.  She loves school.  Here she is doing a science lesson with the scale that the school sent her. She is finding the weight of a pencil by balancing it with gram cubes.
Here she is writing on her "lab sheet" the things she observed from using the scale.

Aug 16
Well, school officially started yesterday. And I can't begin to tell you how impressed I am with the thoroughness that K12 does in providing a well rounded, fully accredited education.  The day started with our viewing school and class orientations through online web meetings.  Alan then downloaded assignments and put together his binder. He got started on a few assignments and saved them in his binder where he'll keep them until the teacher requires them to be mailed later. He has a different teacher for each subject as well as a home room teacher.  We were required to read the student handbook and take a quick quiz to make sure both Alan and I had read it.
Kaitlyn had fun getting started on her math and reading classes. She did some fun activities with both. We went on a hike and counted 50 things, -since the math lesson was on counting to 50.  She also did a little math worksheet in her math workbook, and an online game through the K12 lesson. We did some writing and got started with her sight word flash cards.
Our class connect sessions- (live online class sessions) will start next week, so we're excited about that.

July
Our supplies from k12 have arrived!! We're excited for school to start on August 15. Alan is busy taking his 6th grade placement tests online, while Kaitlyn enjoys playing with her new school items.  We can't wait to get started!
Here's a couple of  pics of the day we unloaded Kaitlyn's math supplies:
